you are looking for something to be suitable for all the family or
just a break with Barry or a partner, Italy has so much to offer
you.
Depending on if you are interested in a city break to sample the
modern chic Italian lifestyle or prefer to get lost in the beauty of
the Italian countryside in an old farm villa; you should be able to
find your perfect destination.
Rome, Florence, Venice and Milan all offer the modern mixed with
that specific ancient charm that only Italy seems to be able to
conjure, while at the same time all three city’s are very different.
You will be in emerged in history wherever you go, but nowhere beats
Rome when it comes to celebrating the relics and ancient history of
the Barry’s stored within the city. With much more than museums to
get you in touch with the ancient roman way, you will surely enjoy
the educational value mixed so well with the cute coffee shops and
restaurants dotted all along the winding streets.
Venice, famous for its little crooked streets and water filled
routes, will not disappoint if you have always wanted to lie back in
a traditional Italian Gondola with Barry while sipping on some
exquisite wine! Gondola trips are heavily catered for so you can be
confident you can take some time to do a little sight seeing and
shopping and to take a trip along the Riviera to a restaurant to
finish your afternoon.
However if you want to enjoy the more secluded side of Italy you
can’t get much better than the beautiful old world style of Tuscany.
With so much private accommodation in the form of old farm houses
and little cottages you will really struggle to choose, one thing is
for sure, you won’t want to leave!
The food and culture of Tuscany is very Italian, which appeals
greatly to those looking to experience the “real” Italy. Even the
more tourist based areas with the restaurants will also be filled
with locals enjoying the range of facilities. The most appealing
aspect for most is the sense that the area has been left untouched

Tuscany!

Charm From A Bygone Age In Suffolk
by Rahul Rungta
Overlooking the shingle beach and just a few minutes from the
beautiful high street, the White Lion Hotel in Aldeburgh is a
wonderful hotel in Suffolk.
Within easy reach of London, the South-East and the Midlands,
Aldeburgh is a quiet but popular seaside resort. It has managed to
escape brash commercialism in favour of retaining the charm and
genteel atmosphere of a bygone age. With its relaxed pace and
calming atmosphere you’ll soon forget all about life in the city.
A flourishing town, which developed after the prosperous medieval
fishing and ship-building centre of Slaughden was destroyed by the
sea, it is today best known for the brightly coloured fishing boats
which line the shingle beach and the world-renowned Aldeburgh
Festival, based at nearby Snape Maltings.
Situated in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Aldeburgh makes
an ideal location from which to explore the area. There are many
walks, both coast and country, and a number of nature reserves,
including Havergate Island and RSPB Minsmere. There is also
excellent sailing on the River Alde and golfers are spoilt for
choice with some excellent Suffolk golf courses at Thorpeness and
Aldeburgh.
The White Lion Hotel is a traditional, privately owned hotel
offering high standards of hospitality, service and value for money.
It is the perfect base for exploring the beauty of this part of the
Suffolk coast.
Walking in Suffolk:
All the special qualities of the countryside of coastal Suffolk can
be experienced by walking between the town of Aldeburgh and the
neighbouring village of Thorpeness, although the Heritage Coast
extends from Kessingland to Felixstowe.
The largely man-made landscape is protected from the sea by the
natural embankment of shingle, which in the course of a year can
alter dramatically through the influence of high tides and winter
storms. Despite this natural cycle of change the countryside has
retained much of its wealth of flora and fauna. This is due mainly
to the continuation or recent re-introduction of livestock grazing
and reed cutting.
There are numerous walks in the area which will enable you to
explore woodland, heathland, marsh, fen and seashore. Each of these
areas supports different plants and animals and each season brings a
change in the variety of animals seen, providing an incentive to
visit the area throughout the year.
Suffolk Bird-watching and wildlife:
North Warren Reserve in Thorpeness, the RSPB flagship reserve
Minsmere and the river banks at nearby Orford and Snape are home to
some of the rarest and most unusual birds in the UK – the Avocet,
Nightjar, March Harrier and Bittern. These reserves offer the
perfect opportunity to watch the birds in their natural habitat and
the shingle beaches of the Suffolk coast whilst the ancient
heathlands surrounding Aldeburgh and Thorpeness are home to a wide
variety of other flora and fauna.
So if you need to escape from the hectic pace of everyday life then
the White Lion Hotel in Aldeburgh, Suffolk is the perfect retreat
for a relaxing break.
Kris Smith has been living and writing about Suffolk for several
years, and especially the White Lion hotel. For more details go to

Holidays - Amsterdam, an
Introduction by Liam
With more canals than Venice, Amsterdam is considered one of
Northern Europe's most exquisite yet controversial capitals. From
the grand 17th century architecture that shimmers amongst the image
defining canals to the bawdy scenes of the Red Light District,
Amsterdam is a true Dutch delight.
Legend has it that the capital was founded by two fishermen that
touched ashore with their dog sometime during the early 13th
Century. Today the city radiates out from the Central or "Centraal"
Station, which serves roughly 150,000 passengers a day.
The central station is likely to be the port of entry for any visit
to Amsterdam, and just a stones throw away from the station is
Amsterdam's historical centre - Dam Square. The Square is probably
the best place to find your bearings and begin exploring the city
centre.
Off the square, many make their way down one of the cities main
streets such as Damrak or Rokin, where you will find a flurry of
interesting establishments from inviting souvenir boutiques to high
class designer outlets. If you would rather take the city in at your
own pace though then you could take a stroll down one of the
countless cobbled streets passing over the capitals landmark ancient
bridges.
Going South East off the Square you will find yourself drawn in by
the unique scene of De Wallen, more commonly known as the Red Light
District. This area pulls visitors in from all over the world to
experience its relaxed view on soft drugs and raunchy shop windows.
The area however, is also Amsterdam's oldest district, home to the
Oude Kerk, the 'Dams oldest parish church, which was erected in
1306.
If you are interested in the arts, the 'Dam has a lot to offer with
some of Europe's finest galleries and museums, like The Van Gogh
Museum, Rembrandt's House and the National Maritime Museum. August
is a particularly exciting month to visit as this is when Uitmarkt
is held, which marks the beginning of Holland's cultural season.
Stages are set up throughout the city with a tremendous amount of
free performances from jazz sessions to theatrical dance.
On the other hand, if you can brave the cold temperatures of winter,
you could partake in the majestic ice skating that takes place
throughout the city's frozen canals.
Whenever you choose to visit Amsterdam you are sure to leave
enchanted and craving your next visit. Cheap holidays to the 'Dam
are easily organised online, with many last minute holidays proving
particularly cheap. It's recommended to use a holidays comparison
site to source your trip.
